AVESTA AWARDS ~ recognizing the Annapolis Valley’s 2016 Events
The eighth annual Annapolis Valley Events and Sport Tourism (AVESTA) awards will be presented on
Friday, April 21, 2017. These awards celebrate the achievements of our valley events and festivals and the important positive economic and social impact these organizations and events bring to the region.
The awards include:
Event Legacy Award - In recognition of an annual community festival or event providing long lasting benefits to a community in the Annapolis Valley.
Sport Legacy Award - In recognition of an annual sporting event providing long lasting benefits to a community in the Annapolis Valley.
Venue Award - In recognition of a venue or facility that supports major sport or community events in the Annapolis valley
Event of the Year Award - In recognition of an organization or committee that hosts a non-annual event in the given year in a community or communities in the Annapolis Valley.
Individual of the Year - In recognition of an individual who inspires an active lifestyle
*Winners will be announced at the annual AVESTA luncheon
This year’s banquet will include valuable morning sessions with guest speakers on various topics such as the Nova Scotia provincial Festivals and Events Program; liability insurance for festivals and events, protecting volunteers and participants; learn about the Canadian Sport Tourism Association and the newly formed
Atlantic Sport Tourism Association.
Morning session guest speakers include:
Theresa Stedman, MCT Insurance
Kevin Dickie, Acadia University
Angela Dennison, Nova Scotia Department of Communities, Cultures and Heritage
Keynote Speaker: Stacy Chestnut, Sole Sisters Race series. She will be discussing how the series has grown and is a pioneer in women’s racing in Eastern Canada. They are the only Women’s 5K in the Maritimes, and today they remain the largest women’s only 5K in Canada… but that’s not all, they're also the only women’s half marathon in Eastern Canada.
