Today, the Annapolis Valley Chamber of Commerce hosted Premier Tim Houston at Acadia University to discuss the economic future of our region.
We have always believed that a healthy democracy relies on open dialogue and the safe, peaceful expression of differing viewpoints. We respect the fundamental right of citizens to protest and make their voices heard.
However, the events that took place outside our venue this afternoon crossed a line from peaceful demonstration into violence, property damage, and intimidation. The blockading and vandalism of the Premier’s vehicle, resulting in a smashed windshield and requiring a police escort, is entirely unacceptable.
We unequivocally condemn these actions. Resorting to violence and making attendees, staff, and public officials feel physically unsafe does nothing to foster constructive dialogue or resolve the very real issues facing our communities.
We are profoundly grateful for the swift and coordinated response of the RCMP, Acadia University’s security team, and campus staff. Their prompt intervention was critical to maintaining order, preventing further escalation, and ensuring everyone on site remained physically safe.
Most of all, we thank our members and guests who joined us today for their grace and professionalism under incredibly challenging circumstances. We remain committed to providing safe, respectful spaces where our business community and leaders can connect, converse, and collaborate.
